Household Aid (Theatre) – Knysna Hospital

About the role

The Household Aid (Theatre) provides essential cleaning and housekeeping support within the theatre department of Knysna Hospital. The role ensures a safe, hygienic environment for patients, staff and equipment while assisting the housekeeping supervisor.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine cleaning tasks such as sweeping, dusting, mopping, scrubbing, polishing and refuse handling to maintain overall hygiene.
• Clean and safely store theatre machinery and equipment.
• Follow Occupational Health and Safety and Infection Prevention Control policies at all times.
• Assist the supervisor with inventory control of cleaning supplies, linen, and household equipment.
• Support patient care by helping with linen handling and meal serving when required.

Required profile

• Basic numeracy and literacy.
• Relevant experience in household or cleaning duties within a health‑care setting.
• Physical ability to operate heavy‑duty cleaning equipment and perform manual tasks.
• Willingness to work shifts, weekends, public holidays, night duty, overtime and rotate between departments as needed.

Required skills

• Basic knowledge of cleaning equipment operation.
• Understanding of stock, asset, linen and equipment control procedures.
• Ability to follow housekeeping policies and cleaning best practices.
