Hospital Cleaner – Gauteng

About the role

Join the Department of Health as a Cleaner at Weskoppies Hospital in Gauteng. You will maintain a clean and safe environment for patients, visitors and staff.

Key responsibilities

• Clean and maintain floors, walls, windows, doors, furniture, lockers, beds, curtains and blinds in wards and departments.
• Clean external areas such as corridors and entrances, removing litter and waste.
• Dispose of waste according to hospital waste management and infection control policies.
• Clean kitchen areas, refrigerators, microwaves and other equipment; wash dishes, cups and utensils.
• Safely use, store and maintain cleaning chemicals, materials and equipment.
• Immediately clean spills to prevent accidents and maintain safety.
• Replenish consumables daily, including soap, toilet paper and deodoriser blocks.
• Complete and sign daily documentation such as cleanliness checklists and attendance registers.
• Report maintenance defects, hazards and shortages to the supervisor promptly.
• Support the creation of a hygienic environment in line with infection prevention and occupational health standards.

Required profile

• Minimum ABET Level 4, Grade 10 or Grade 12 certificate.
• Ability to read, write and communicate effectively.
• Capability to follow instructions and work independently with minimal supervision.
• Team‑player attitude and strong work ethic.
• Physically fit to perform strenuous cleaning duties.
• Willingness to rotate across wards and work shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
• Honest, reliable and responsible.
• Ability to handle cleaning chemicals and equipment safely.
• Knowledge of infection prevention and control practices is an advantage.
