Holding Station Manager – Livestock Operations

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Holding Station Manager to lead all operations at our Graaff‑Reinet holding station. The role ensures humane handling, biosecurity, and efficient movement of cattle while maintaining compliance with legislation and company standards.

Key responsibilities

• Manage daily holding station activities, including receiving, off‑loading, inspection, sorting, identification and allocation of cattle.
• Ensure humane handling and monitor animal health, reporting injuries, illness or abnormal behaviour promptly.
• Coordinate cattle movement between receiving facilities, holding pens, quarantine, feedlot sections and loading bays.
• Maintain accurate livestock records, tagging, weighing and documentation.
• Enforce strict bio‑security protocols and oversee maintenance of pens, fences, water systems and handling equipment.
• Supervise, train and develop station staff, allocate duties and monitor performance.
• Liaise with veterinary services, procurement, transport and senior management to ensure smooth operations.

Required profile

• Matric (Grade 12) minimum; diploma or degree in Agriculture, Animal Science, Livestock Production or related field preferred.
• At least 5 years of experience in cattle handling, feedlot operations or livestock management.
• Previous supervisory or management experience.
• Good knowledge of cattle behaviour, animal welfare, bio‑security and livestock identification systems.
• Valid driver’s licence, reliable transport and ability to work overtime, weekends and public holidays.
