History Teacher

About the role

Reddford House Northcliff, part of Inspired Education, is looking for a History Teacher. The school sits on the Northcliff Ridge in the northern suburbs of Johannesburg and offers a wide range of facilities, from early learning classrooms to performing and creative studios. The teacher is expected to take a holistic view of the students in their care, promote their progress and well-being, and create a positive, motivating learning environment.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and deliver engaging History lessons in a nurturing, engaged-learning environment.
• Evaluate, reflect on and refine teaching practice.
• Produce high-quality resources for students.
• Provide academic support on two afternoons per week and help with two afternoons of extracurricular activities.
• Set and mark exams and other forms of student evaluation, and write report comments.
• Behave professionally regarding punctuality, behaviour, standards of work and homework.
• Attend special occasions at the discretion of the Head, show loyalty to the school, and carry out other reasonable tasks assigned by the School Head or line manager.

Required profile

• Proven track record of teaching History.
• Previous experience with the IEB programme.
• University qualification and certified teaching status.
• A minimum of 4 years' experience is advantageous; boarding mentor experience is also beneficial.
• Commitment to student development, a passion for the profession, excellent organisational skills and a positive attitude to change.

Required skills

• Confidence using IT in teaching.
• Experience with the IEB curriculum.
