Head of Reinsurance Accounting

About the role

The Head of Reinsurance Accounting will lead the end‑to‑end reinsurance accounting and analytics function, shaping the reinsurance strategy and overseeing its implementation, data and system requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and analyse monthly, quarterly and annual reinsurance reports.
• Source, reconcile and model reinsurance data for internal and external stakeholders.
• Design and implement system and process solutions for reinsurance agreements.
• Participate actively in reinsurance forum meetings and manage audit engagements.
• Ensure full recovery and accounting of reinsurance claims across all treaties.
• Set and achieve financial reinsurance targets up to R1 billion and advise on strategy impacts.
• Provide input to capital modelling, risk profiles and governance controls.

Required profile

• Matric qualification; CA (SA) highly preferred.
• At least 10 years’ experience in insurance, with 5 years in reinsurance.
• Proven ability to lead a team and manage performance cycles.
• Strong stakeholder management with external reinsurers, brokers and auditors.
