Head of Music (SP & College)

About the role

Reddam House Helderfontein, a private school in the Helderfontein Estate Valley near Fourways, is looking for a Head of Music to lead its SP and College Music Department. The successful candidate will be an experienced music educator who combines strong classroom practice with ensemble direction, performance leadership and departmental management, reporting to the Head of School.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and deliver engaging music lessons in a nurturing, engaged-learning environment.
• Evaluate, reflect on and refine teaching practice.
• Set and mark examinations and other student evaluations, and write report comments.
• Produce high-quality resources for students.
• Provide academic support on two afternoons per week and help with two afternoons of co-curricular activities.
• Work with colleagues across the Preparatory and College phases to ensure continuity and progression.
• Attend special occasions at the discretion of the relevant Head and perform other reasonable tasks assigned by the School Head or line manager.

Required profile

• Proven track record of teaching music.
• Previous experience with the IEB programme.
• A university qualification and certified teaching status.
• SACE accreditation.
• At least 4 years' experience is advantageous.
• Commitment to student development, a passion for the profession, good organisational skills and a positive attitude to change.

The school offers weekly and termly boarding from Grade 6 to 12 for students from neighbouring countries such as Botswana, Zambia and Mozambique.
