Head of Finance

About the role

We are seeking a hands‑on Head of Finance to lead the finance function of a fast‑growing product supply and distribution business in Centurion, Johannesburg. The role combines strategic partnership with senior executives and day‑to‑day operational oversight to drive growth, profitability and commercial performance.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the finance team and work closely with executives on strategy, pricing, growth initiatives and profitability.
• Prepare and deliver financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash‑flow planning, modelling and commercial insights.
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax, statutory requirements and internal controls while coordinating audits.
• Manage banking relationships, working capital, funding, trade finance, foreign‑exchange exposure and hedging activities.
• Oversee financial aspects of imports, exports, procurement, freight, customs and landed costing.
• Partner with supply‑chain, logistics and warehousing functions to improve controls, efficiency and working capital.
• Supervise inventory accounting, stock controls, valuations, provisions, physical counts and variance analysis.
• Analyse costing, margins and profitability by customer, product, supplier and channel.
• Support commercial negotiations, contracts, tenders, investments and new‑business opportunities.
• Build and develop the finance team, implementing scalable processes, controls, systems and automation.

Required profile

• CA(SA) qualification – non‑negotiable.
• Minimum 4 years post‑qualification commercial experience in a leadership or managerial role.
• Proven experience in manufacturing/FMCG costing.
• Experience with imports and exports; exposure to foreign‑exchange hedging is advantageous.
• Commercially astute, strategic and forward‑thinking mindset.
