Data Scientist/Actuarial Analyst

About the role

OUTsurance, a leading South African insurer, is looking for a Data Scientist/Actuarial Analyst to join its Centurion team. The role focuses on data‑driven strategy, working with operational management and business stakeholders to turn complex data into actionable insights.

Key responsibilities

• Connect people, processes and systems to deliver value to staff, clients, shareholders and suppliers.
• Build strong relationships with IT, Digital, Actuarial and Operations teams.
• Develop and maintain analytics reports and data cubes.
• Design and optimise work‑allocation models.
• Contribute to performance frameworks such as PBS, manager bonus structures and salary analyses.
• Generate accurate staff projections.
• Conduct in‑depth data analysis across the value chain to identify improvement opportunities.
• Translate analytical findings into clear insights and recommendations for decision‑makers.
• Build, maintain and continuously improve predictive models.
• Participate in strategic projects aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and customer outcomes.

Required profile

• Sharp analytical mind, curiosity and enthusiasm for using data to solve complex business challenges.
• Ability to construct analytical solutions and engage effectively with stakeholders across business units.
• Background in Actuarial Science, Data Science or Mathematical Statistics is highly beneficial.
• Completion of the CT series of actuarial exams and at least two years of data‑analytics experience is an advantage.
• Strong proficiency in SQL and Excel.
• Capability to present findings clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
