Head Chef

About the role

African Spirit is looking for an accomplished and driven Head Chef to take full responsibility for leading kitchen operations in a high-performing hospitality setting. The role suits a hands-on culinary leader who combines creativity with strong commercial awareness and operational discipline.

Key responsibilities

• Own the overall culinary direction so the kitchen runs efficiently and consistently meets high standards
• Design and run menus that reflect creativity, seasonality and strong profit margins
• Set up quality control, portion consistency and presentation standards
• Foster accountability and teamwork, developing staff through training and mentorship
• Analyse food cost performance and take corrective action to protect margins
• Oversee purchasing cycles, supplier negotiations, stock accuracy and waste reduction
• Ensure compliance with health, safety and food-handling regulations
• Work with management to align kitchen performance with business goals and guest satisfaction targets

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Head Chef or in a senior culinary leadership role
• Demonstrated strength in menu design, development and implementation
• Strong commercial understanding of costing, margins and profitability
• Excellent leadership and team development ability
• Solid knowledge of kitchen administration, budgeting and operational controls
• High standards of organisation, hygiene and attention to detail
• Ability to work well in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
