Graduate Actuarial Analyst – Non-Life Insurance

About the role

Absa offers a graduate programme for ambitious graduates to launch their careers in non‑life insurance. The role provides a comprehensive introduction to the industry, blending practical experience with structured learning and mentorship.

Key responsibilities

• Data analysis and interpretation using statistical data and Excel to identify trends and assess risks.
• Support senior actuaries with calculations, model development, and validation of actuarial assumptions.
• Contribute to risk assessment for various insurance products and business operations.
• Prepare reports, summaries and presentations to communicate findings to stakeholders.
• Identify process improvement opportunities to enhance efficiency and accuracy within the actuarial services department.
• Participate in training sessions, workshops and self‑study to progress toward professional actuarial qualifications.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Honours degree in Actuarial Science with a minimum 65 % average.
• South African citizenship.
• No more than two years of post‑graduate work experience.
• Preferably six actuarial exemptions and active pursuit of professional actuarial qualifications.
• Strong analytical, communication, attention‑to‑detail, teamwork and quick‑learning abilities.
• Demonstrated leadership potential through academic, community or extracurricular activities.
