General Mechanic – Earthmoving Equipment (Grade 08)

About the role

Barloworld Equipment is looking for a General Mechanic (Grade 08) to deliver scheduled services, maintenance and repairs on Caterpillar earthmoving equipment at customer sites or Barloworld locations.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out scheduled services, maintenance and repairs (disassembly, inspection and re‑assembly) on earthmoving equipment.
• Perform machine inspections and technical analyses, producing accurate reports with recommendations.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose machine systems to ensure optimal utilisation and availability.
• Maintain professional image and adhere to BWE contamination standards.
• Ensure work meets OEM quality standards and ISO quality system requirements.
• Control own administration including labour booking, service reports, part returns and expenses.
• Follow safe work practices and uphold quality and productivity standards.

Required profile

• Matric/Grade 12 with a relevant trade qualification (e.g., Earthmoving Equipment Mechanic or Diesel Mechanic) and Red Seal certification.
• Minimum five years post‑qualification experience on Caterpillar machines.
• Strong knowledge of Caterpillar equipment systems and ability to read schematics.
• Good interpersonal, communication and technical report writing skills.
• Basic business and financial understanding.
• Driver’s licence – Code B.

Required skills

• Technical expertise with Caterpillar earthmoving equipment systems.
• Proficiency in SIS, STW and ET computer applications.
• Advanced troubleshooting and problem‑solving abilities.
• Knowledge of ISO quality systems and contamination control principles.
• Understanding of supplier warranty systems, policies and procedures.
