General Mechanic - Earthmoving Equipment (Caterpillar)

About the role

Barloworld Equipment is looking for a General Mechanic (Grade 08) to maintain and repair earthmoving equipment. The role covers scheduled services, maintenance and repairs on customer sites or at Barloworld Equipment sites, machine inspections and technical analysis, and reporting to customers.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out scheduled services, maintenance and repairs (disassembly, inspection and assembly) on earthmoving equipment on customer sites or at Barloworld Equipment sites.
• Perform machine inspections and technical analyses, and compile accurate reports with recommendations for customers.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose machine systems and carry out repairs to keep machines available.
• Maintain a professional image and follow contamination control standards.
• Work to OEM quality standards and control your own administration (labour booking, service reports, part returns, expenses).
• Ensure safe work practices.

Required profile

• Matric / Grade 12.
• Qualified in a relevant trade, red seal (e.g. Earthmoving Equipment Mechanic / Diesel Mechanic).
• At least five years of post-qualification experience on Caterpillar machines.
• Code B driver's licence.

Required skills

• Technical knowledge of Caterpillar equipment systems and ability to read their schematics.
• Good troubleshooting, problem-solving and report-writing skills.
• Basic business and financial understanding.
• Computer literacy (SIS, STW and ET).
• Understanding of supplier warranty systems and ISO quality systems.
