Financial Controller

About the role

An established education organisation is looking for a Financial Controller to work directly with executive leadership and oversee core financial functions, keeping monthly accounting records precise. The role is based full-time at the Head Office in Centurion. In the short term, the controller supports the Head of Finance in running daily operations across existing sites; in the medium term, they help design, build and optimise scalable financial systems, policies and automated processes to support expansion.

Key responsibilities

• Keep monthly accounting records accurate, complete and valid, and support the preparation of management accounts including draft income statements, balance sheets and cash flow statements.
• Help design, develop and implement internal systems, processes, policies and procedures, with a focus on automation and efficiency.
• Support procurement alongside campus Operations Managers, review age analysis, reconcile and manage vendor payments.
• Oversee accounts receivable, review age analysis and reconciliations, manage bad debt provisions and support the Debtors Manager.
• Carry out regular internal audits and control reviews, and assist with external audit queries and compliance.
• Ensure tax reporting, submissions and payments are accurate and up to date, and stay compliant with CIPC and COIDA.
• Maintain and update the group fixed asset register.

Required profile

• Minimum 3-year tertiary degree in Accounting or Financial Management.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar financial management or controlling role.
• Proven track record of designing, improving and automating financial systems and processes.
• Strong organisational and time management skills with a focus on execution.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Desirable: prior financial experience in the education sector.
