Financial Accountant - Short-Term Insurance

About the role

A four-month fixed-term contract Financial Accountant position supporting core financial functions in a niche short-term insurance environment. The role drives accurate financial management, technical accounting and regulatory reporting, with month-end processing, internal controls and IFRS 17 compliance. It covers treasury management, audit coordination and financial reporting, including tax compliance and budget forecasting, and involves technical account reviews, profit commission calculations and cross-departmental collaboration.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare month-end files and review information for accuracy, completeness and adherence to agreed deadlines
• Calculate profit commissions, prepare technical accounts and review month-end bank and provision reconciliations
• Prepare monthly management accounts, analyse actual versus budgeted expenses and manage IFRS 17 input and output checks
• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements under IFRS 17, and manage SARS submissions (VAT, EMP201 and tax returns)
• Formulate forecasts and budgets and handle ad hoc financial requests
• Oversee and review creditor payments for accuracy and timeliness
• Maintain internal controls and document management for internal and external audits, cooperate with auditors and implement their findings
• Collaborate with finance colleagues, wider teams and department heads and managers

Required profile

• Postgraduate qualification in Accounting, Finance or a related field
• Minimum of 3 years' relevant experience in the short-term insurance industry
• Strong technical background in short-term insurance
• English at C1 level or higher
• Desirable: completion of articles; experience with SAP or similar financial reporting software
