Financial Accountant – Maternity Cover

About the role

Absolute Pets, the leading pet care retailer in South Africa, is seeking a Financial Accountant to cover a maternity leave until 31 May 2027. The role primarily focuses on processing payroll for approximately 800 employees and supporting various finance functions.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and process the monthly payroll, including hours from rosters, clocking issues, overtime, incentives, deductions, and staff loans.
• Manage new hire and termination processing, ensuring accurate clocking, backpay, and termination leave.
• Compile variance reports, payroll trackers, and staff turnover reports for review by the financial manager.
• Reconcile all payroll‑related general ledger accounts and the payroll bank account each month.
• Produce weekly and monthly financial reports such as damaged & expired stock, pet spa price changes, stock transfers, and departmental reporting checks.
• Process, report, and reconcile company credit‑card expenditures, including ordering, renewal, and cancellation of cards.
• Handle payroll cashbook processing and address any company insurance claims.
• Provide finance administration support, filing, and assist with ad‑hoc projects as needed.
