Financial Accountant

About the role

The Financial Accountant oversees and supports day-to-day accounting operations across PayGenius, Powertime and Energy Intelligence. The role ensures accurate consolidated financial reporting, regulatory compliance and strong internal controls, giving leadership timely financial information for strategic decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee and perform month-end and year-end close procedures across the three entities in line with group timelines.
• Prepare and process monthly journal entries, accruals, prepayments and intercompany transactions.
• Reconcile balance sheet accounts across the entities and resolve reconciling items promptly.
• Assist in preparing monthly management accounts, consolidated financial reports and entity-level reporting.
• Manage accounts payable and receivable where required, and support VAT returns and other statutory obligations.
• Coordinate with internal and external auditors, maintain the fixed asset register per entity, and monitor group cash flow.
• Ensure compliance with IFRS and South African financial regulations, and propose process improvements.
• Liaise with Operations, Legal, Compliance and Technology teams across the three businesses.

Required profile

• Finance or Accounting degree (BCom or equivalent) or a recognised Accounting Diploma.
• At least 2 years' experience in a financial accounting role.
• Solid understanding of IFRS and financial reporting principles.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and reporting deadlines across several entities.
• Strong attention to detail, analytical and problem-solving skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software such as Sage, Xero or similar ERP.
• Advantageous: CIMA studies, fintech/payments/utilities/energy experience, multi-entity accounting, VAT and SA tax compliance, and familiarity with automated reporting and BI tools.
