Finance Manager – Johannesburg

About the role

The Finance Manager will lead the finance function in Johannesburg, reporting directly to the CFO. The role is responsible for overseeing all financial operations, ensuring compliance with internal policies, IFRS, GRAP and South African regulations, and providing strategic insight to senior management.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day‑to‑day financial activities including payroll, invoicing, creditor payments and cash management.
• Lead and develop the finance team, allocate work and monitor performance.
• Coordinate external services for tax, audit, banking and investment needs.
• Prepare and monitor the annual budget, monthly management accounts and statutory reports.
• Maintain and update financial policies, procedures and internal controls.
• Oversee the year‑end audit process to achieve an unqualified audit opinion.
• Analyse financial performance, identify cost‑reduction opportunities and support strategic decision‑making.
• Ensure compliance with PFMA, National Treasury regulations and other statutory requirements.

Required profile

• Minimum 8 years of progressive financial management experience, including staff supervision.
• Proven experience preparing monthly management accounts, annual financial statements and managing internal and external audits.
• Strong knowledge of IFRS, IFRS 9, GRAP, PFMA and National Treasury regulations.
• Demonstrated ability to develop budgets, forecasts and strategic financial analysis.
• BCom in Finance or Accounting; Honours degree preferred; CA(SA) advantageous.
• High level of integrity, results‑orientation and ability to work under pressure.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel proficiency.
• Experience with accounting software/systems.
• In‑depth knowledge of IFRS and IFRS 9.
• Understanding of GRAP, PFMA and National Treasury regulations.
• Budgeting and financial reporting expertise.
