Feedlot Manager

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Feedlot Manager to take full responsibility for the performance, health, and operational efficiency of our feedlot in Springs, South Africa. The role combines veterinary expertise with strong leadership to drive productivity, ensure animal welfare, and achieve financial targets.

Key responsibilities

• Lead herd health management, diagnose and treat conditions, and implement preventative programs.
• Oversee daily feedlot operations including feeding, cattle movement, infrastructure maintenance, and feed quality control.
• Conduct herd health assessments, maintain accurate records, and coordinate with external veterinarians.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory, biosecurity, and safety standards.
• Lead, train, and develop the feedlot team, fostering a culture of accountability.
• Manage budgets, KPIs, and operational efficiency to drive profitability.
• Prepare performance reports and liaise with suppliers, management, and industry stakeholders.
• Implement industry best practices, innovations, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Veterinary degree (BVSc, DVM or equivalent) – strongly preferred.
• 5‑8 years of experience in feedlot management or large‑scale livestock operations.
• Strong knowledge of cattle health, nutrition, and feedlot systems.
• Proven leadership experience managing teams and large‑scale operations.
• Financial acumen with ability to manage budgets and drive profitability.
• Excellent communication and problem‑solving abilities.
• High attention to detail for compliance and record‑keeping.

Required skills

• Experience with livestock management systems.
• Proficiency in data analysis tools.
