EPWP Community Service Positions – Umzimvubu Municipality

About the role

The Umzimvubu Local Municipality is offering a series of Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) positions across various community services. These fixed‑term contracts aim to provide employment and skill development for residents while supporting municipal operations such as pool maintenance, waste management, livestock control, cash handling, plumbing, handyman tasks, environmental education and gym services.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain cleanliness and safety of the community swimming pool and monitor swimmers.
• Travel the municipality to locate, collect and escort stray livestock.
• Handle cash transactions, maintain attendance registers and manage daily collections.
• Perform plumbing repairs, respond to service requests and ensure health‑and‑safety compliance.
• Carry out general building repairs, fence installation and routine inspections.
• Collect, sort and transport waste, conduct grass cutting and assist with tree planting.
• Educate residents on waste management, conduct litter‑free campaigns and support recycling initiatives.
• Lead gym classes, provide personal training and ensure equipment safety.

Required profile

• Matric (Grade 12) or Grade 10 qualification as specified per role.
• Proof of residence from the ward councillor and a certified ID copy.
• Physical fitness appropriate to the duties.
• Relevant experience ranging from one year as pool attendant, cashier, plumber, handyman, environmental educator or gym attendant.

Required skills

• Computer literacy.
• Basic First Aid (advantage for pool attendant).
• Cash handling and receipt issuance.
• Plumbing trade qualification or building & civil construction certificate.
• Ability to use hand and power tools safely.
• Livestock handling and collection.
• Waste collection, sorting and transportation.
• Gym equipment operation and fitness instruction.
