Environmental Officer - Production

About the role

The Department of Water and Sanitation is recruiting an Environmental Officer for its production unit in the Eastern Cape. The role covers compliance monitoring of water use efficiency standards, oversight of water conservation and demand management programmes, and support on regulatory reporting and training.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor compliance with Water Use Efficiency standards and compile the relevant reports with recommendations.
• Monitor the development and implementation of Water Conservation and Water Demand Management (WC/WDM) programmes, strategies, business plans and projects by Water Management Institutions, including Water Services Authorities.
• Ensure the rollout of WC/WDM improvement systems, measures and procedures complies with sectoral benchmarks and water use efficiency practices.
• Monitor the development and submission of standard International Water Association (IWA) water balances by Water Services Authorities.
• Assess and monitor water losses and non-revenue water using IWA water balance information to regulate the municipal sector.
• Prepare and conduct assessments for the No Drop regulatory programme, coordinate submission and monitoring of corrective action plans, and monitor the loading of water use efficiency data in the Integrated Regulatory Information System (IRIS).
• Compile presentations for catchment management forums and DMS management, and provide regulatory findings to shape training, manuals and courses for local government stakeholders.
• Contribute to the Directorate's Operational Plan and assist with monthly, quarterly and annual performance and risk reports.
