Environmental Assessment Practitioner (Env Impact Management)

About the role

The City of Ekurhuleni is looking for an Environmental Assessment Practitioner to protect and conserve the environment and its natural resources within the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) through environmental assessment practices. The role also involves advising on environmental authorisations, reviewing development proposals and liaising with applicants and consultants.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure compliance of CoE departments with all applicable environmental legislation
• Advise on environmental authorisations, permits and licences required
• Review, interpret and comment on development proposals such as land use applications, EIA applications, waste and water use licences and mining permits
• Check the Environmental GIS for development constraints, sensitive areas and other comments
• Review applications against CoE policies (EMF, EBOSS, Bioregional Plan, SDFs, municipal by-laws)
• Conduct site inspections and consolidate comments from other departments into final recommendations on approval
• Liaise with environmental consultants, applicants and the competent authority
• Manage the function to meet organisational demands, ensure proper financial management and implement Council resolutions on risk

Required profile

• Grade 12 certificate
• Degree in Natural Sciences, Life Sciences or Environmental Management at NQF Level 7, or Higher Education and Training first degree/advanced diploma
• Valid driver's licence
• 3 years' experience in a similar environment
