Engineering Draughtsman (He/She)

About the role

Solenis is hiring an Engineering Draughtsman in Kempton Park, Gauteng, reporting to the Engineering Manager within the Engineering department. The role creates and maintains engineering drawings and documentation for a chemical manufacturing environment, including piping and instrumentation diagrams, process flow diagrams, general arrangement drawings, plant and equipment layouts, mechanical and fabrication drawings, and utility distribution drawings. It supports maintenance, reliability improvement, plant upgrades and capital projects.

Key responsibilities

• Create and modify technical drawings, layouts, schematics and engineering documentation using CAD software.
• Ensure drawings accurately reflect current plant configurations and modifications, and revise them after plant changes.
• Perform plant walk-downs and site surveys to verify drawing accuracy.
• Maintain drawing registers, revision control and document management systems, and support Management of Change (MOC).
• Assist in developing engineering drawing standards and document control procedures.
• Collaborate with engineers and other departments, review project documentation and provide drafting support during commissioning.
• Support maintenance and production teams with engineering information and assist with equipment documentation.
• Carry out standby and overtime duties and ad hoc tasks as requested by management.

Required profile

• Matric (Grade 12) and/or N3, plus an engineering and/or engineering drawing qualification.
• Minimum 3-5 years of post-qualification experience.
• Own transport and a valid driver's licence.
• Ability to work safely in a chemical manufacturing environment with potential exposure to hazardous chemicals and airborne particulates; a role-specific occupational health assessment is required.

Required skills

• Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
• Strong understanding of P&IDs, PFDs and engineering drawing standards.
• Knowledge of industrial, technical or chemical plant operations.
• Excellent computer, written and verbal communication skills.
