Emergency Medicine Doctor – Emergency Department (Johannesburg)

About the role

Three permanent positions are available for Emergency Medicine Medical Officers or Specialist Emergency Physicians at Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital in Johannesburg. The role involves delivering urgent medical care to patients presenting at the Emergency Department and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.

Key responsibilities

• Provide initial and urgent clinical management of emergency patients.
• Maintain accurate patient and hospital documentation in compliance with legal requirements.
• Develop and sustain relationships with hospital specialists, referring general practitioners, and emergency services personnel.
• Participate in emergency drills and respond to emergency situations within the hospital.
• Engage actively with the hospital team to optimise productivity and service delivery.
• Take part in community and marketing events representing the department.

Required profile

• Registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa for independent practice.
• Certification in at least two of the following: ACLS, APLS/PALS, ATLS.
• MMed Emergency Medicine (FCEM) or Dip PEC qualification is advantageous.
• Minimum of one year relevant experience in Emergency Medicine after community service.
• Understanding of the private healthcare industry and its stakeholders is a plus.
• Willingness to work flexible hours according to department operational needs.
• MMed Emergency Medicine candidates may assume consultant responsibilities.
