Deputy Director: Risk Management

About the role

The General and Public Works (GPW) Directorate in Pretoria is recruiting a Deputy Director: Risk Management (reference GPW 26/010). The position carries a salary of R 932 292 per annum (Level 11, all-inclusive package) and involves developing and embedding a risk management framework across the organisation, advising management on risk matters and managing the sub-directorate.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and facilitate the implementation of risk management governance documents, including the GPW risk management policy, strategy and annual implementation plans
• Advise management on risk management matters and appoint and support Branch Risk Representatives
• Conduct environmental scanning, strategic, operational, project, fraud and regional risk assessments, and draft risk registers
• Ensure risk mitigation strategies are developed by risk owners and sponsors and report their status
• Deliver risk management training, develop awareness materials and represent the directorate at management and government forums
• Produce a monthly risk management progress report, perform secretariat functions for the risk committee and monitor quarterly risk action plans
• Liaise with internal and external auditors on risk-related audit queries
• Manage the sub-directorate: monitor equipment use and maintenance, evaluate performance appraisals, build staff capacity, develop job descriptions, enforce workplace discipline and manage leave

Required profile

• Grade 12 plus a degree (NQF level 7) in Risk Management, Internal Auditing, Finance, Business Management or equivalent
• At least 3 years' experience at Assistant Director level in a risk management environment
• Expert understanding of the Public Service Act and Regulations, and intermediate understanding of the PFMA and Treasury Regulations
• Expert knowledge of Good Corporate Governance (King Report)
• Drivers licence and integrity management experience are added advantages
