Deputy Director – Human Resource Administration (Level 11)

About the role

The Department of Military Veterans is seeking a senior HR professional to lead the Human Resource Administration function at a deputy director level. This permanent position is based in Pretoria and involves overseeing all HR administrative processes and ensuring compliance with government policies.

Key responsibilities

• Provide staff provisioning services and develop HR admin policies and procedures.
• Manage the full recruitment cycle, including advertisement, short‑listing, interview coordination and issuance of appointment letters.
• Oversee validation of qualifications, reference checks, security clearance and probationary processes.
• Administer personnel movements such as transfers, promotions, secondments and retirements.
• Handle staff remuneration, salary adjustments, pay grades and benefits administration.

Required profile

• Senior Certificate and a recognised three‑year degree or National Diploma in Human Resource Management or equivalent.
• Three to five years’ experience at an Assistant Director level within a public‑sector HR environment.
• Certificates in Persal Personnel Administration, Persal Leave Administration and Persal Establishment.
• Strong knowledge of HR policies, legislation and government‑wide guidelines.
• Personal attributes: integrity, fairness, credibility, compassion and strong interpersonal relations.

Required skills

• Proficiency with the Persal HR administration system.
• Ability to interpret and apply HR policies and legislation.
