Deputy Director – Dedicated Counselling Services

About the role

The Department of Military Veterans seeks a Deputy Director to lead its Dedicated Counselling Services. This senior position provides technical and administrative oversight for counselling and treatment programmes for military veterans and their dependents.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical and administrative support for the Dedicated Counselling Services unit.
• Facilitate and coordinate counselling, treatment and referral processes, ensuring veterans receive personalised, dignified care.
• Monitor service delivery, evaluate outcomes and produce comprehensive reports in line with policy.
• Manage invoicing and payments to service providers within stipulated timelines.
• Conduct needs assessments, organise family and group counselling interventions, and advocate for veterans’ rights.
• Develop partnerships with stakeholders, oversee resource allocation and budget implementation, and evaluate staff performance.

Required profile

• National Senior Certificate and a degree or diploma in Social Work Services.
• 3‑5 years experience as a social worker at Assistant Director level.
• Registration with the South African Council for Social Services Professions (SACSSP).
• Knowledge of government legislation and policies; familiarity with military veterans’ issues is an advantage.
• Demonstrated integrity, confidentiality, compassion and strong interpersonal relations.
