Deputy Director – Compensation Benefits (Level 11)

About the role

The Department of Military Veterans is seeking a senior professional to lead the administration of compensation benefits for eligible veterans. The Deputy Director will support strategic planning, policy development and the delivery of high‑quality services across the country.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate the administration and payment of compensation benefits, including medical claims and invoices.
• Develop and implement policies, SOPs and operational plans aligned with departmental strategic objectives.
• Manage multidisciplinary medical assessment sessions and support final adjudication panels.
• Oversee project delivery for veterans with disabling injuries, psychological trauma or terminal illnesses.
• Facilitate stakeholder engagement with government departments, private service providers and consultative committees.
• Monitor service‑provider performance, ensure compliance with standards and manage complaint resolution.

Required profile

• Senior Certificate and a relevant Degree or Diploma in Healthcare or Social Sciences.
• 5–10 years of supervisory or Assistant Director experience in a medical‑claims environment.
• Demonstrated knowledge of compensation or military pension legislation and policies.
• Strong report‑writing, research, decision‑making and project‑management capabilities.
• Personal attributes: integrity, confidentiality, fairness, compassion and the ability to handle crisis situations.
