Data Warehouse Engineer

About the role

A client of Parvana is hiring a Data Warehouse Engineer in Johannesburg, working in a hybrid or remote setting. The client provides financial service solutions to help its customers achieve their goals, with a team of over 600 people and an Agile approach focused on research, innovation and improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain scalable data warehouse architectures (Star/Snowflake) and optimise ETL/ELT pipelines for data quality.
• Write and tune complex SQL (T-SQL/ANSI) and use Python for data manipulation and advanced analytics.
• Own the full software development life cycle: requirements, design, testing, deployment and solution estimation.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to turn business data needs into technical structures.
• Identify and fix performance bottlenecks through normalisation, indexing and query optimisation.
• Build and maintain dashboards and reports with tools such as Power BI or Yellowfin.
• Maintain technical documentation such as data flow diagrams, specifications and metadata.
• Take part in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and research emerging data technologies.

Required profile

• Relevant tertiary qualification (Computer Science, IT, Data Science, etc.) is beneficial.
• Strong knowledge of analytical and dimensional data warehouse modelling, design, architecture and data structures.
• Experience developing and modifying ETL processes and understanding normalisation and performance tuning.
• Full SDLC capability, including requirements gathering, technical design, unit testing, debugging and documentation.
• Ability to consult with clients, propose technical alternatives and write specifications and diagrams.
• Good verbal and written communication, problem-solving and teamwork.
