Data Fabrics Engineer – Build Unified Data Platforms

About the role

Our client in Umhlanga (Durban) is seeking a Data Fabrics Engineer to design, build and operate a unified, automated data layer that connects diverse data sources across the enterprise.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain the organisation’s Data Fabric architecture to enable seamless access to enterprise‑wide data assets.
• Develop and manage scalable ETL/ELT pipelines that integrate data from multiple internal and external sources.
• Configure and optimise data orchestration workflows using Azure Data Factory, Informatica, Talend, Apache NiFi, AWS Glue or equivalent technologies.
• Implement data‑virtualisation solutions to provide unified access without unnecessary replication.
• Establish and maintain metadata management frameworks and data‑catalog solutions such as Collibra, Alation or Atlan.
• Design and support Master Data Management (MDM) solutions, defining standards, hierarchies and governance rules.
• Develop secure APIs and micro‑services to expose data‑as‑a‑service across cloud and on‑premise platforms.
• Enforce data‑governance, quality and compliance policies, maintaining lineage and impact analysis.

Required profile

• Proven experience in data architecture, integration and modern data platforms.
• Strong understanding of hybrid and multi‑cloud environments.
• Ability to collaborate with business stakeholders to define data standards and governance.
• Experience with data‑modernisation initiatives and legacy system integration.
