Data Engineer - fully remote

About the role

We are seeking a motivated Data Engineer to join an established technology business that serves the South African and UK asset management markets. The role is fully remote and offers the chance to work closely with investment and research clients, building and supporting customised data solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Configure and implement data solutions based on client business requirements.
• Design, develop, test and maintain end‑to‑end data services and architectures.
• Analyse, clean, transform and validate financial‑market data.
• Develop and optimise SQL scripts, stored procedures, functions and triggers.
• Integrate data from multiple sources and create complex queries.
• Automate processes, improve workflows and enhance data reliability.
• Support clients directly, providing enhancements and troubleshooting.
• Use data visualisation tools (Power BI, Tableau, QlikView) to help business users interact with data.

Required profile

• A relevant tertiary qualification such as BSc Computer Science, B.IT, Mathematics, Actuarial Science or Engineering.
• Graduates and early‑career candidates with a solid analytical and technical foundation are encouraged to apply.
• Experience or interest in financial or investment data is advantageous.

Required skills

• SQL and database scripting.
• Excel or similar reporting tools.
• Stored procedures, queries, functions and triggers.
• Data integration, transformation and cleaning.
• Data visualisation (Power BI, Tableau, QlikView).
• API integration (optional).
• Familiarity with ETL, data warehousing and SSIS (optional).
• Knowledge of R, MATLAB or other statistical languages (optional).
