CSSD Supervisor / Professional Nurse - Theatre

About the role

Mediclinic Heart Hospital in Arcadia, Pretoria is recruiting a CSSD Supervisor / Professional Nurse for its Centralised Sterile Supply Department (CSSD). The role manages the operations of the department so that adequate, functional and sterile medical devices are provided to the operating rooms and other departments. It is a permanent, on-site position.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the day-to-day processes of the department and manage its resources
• Identify, address and report departmental risks, and prevent risks to ensure patient safety
• Deliver safe, comprehensive and quality peri-operative nursing care in collaboration with a multi-professional team
• Provide accurate records of all nursing and surgical interventions
• Ensure all used stock and equipment are accurately charted
• Create a learning environment that builds staff competence

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Nursing, or Diploma in Operating Department Assistance (Level 2)
• For Level 3: diploma or degree in Nursing plus a postgraduate certificate or diploma in Perioperative Nursing or Operating Department Assistance
• For Level 4: the above plus a Health Services Management qualification
• Level 3 requires 3 years' post-qualification experience, including 2 years in a theatre environment

• Infection prevention and control protocols
• Reprocessing cycle of reusable medical devices
• Knowledge of medico-legal risks
• Stock control, inventory management and knowledge of statutory requirements and accreditation standards
• Computer literacy (Microsoft Office)
