Counselor (12-month Fixed-Term) – Clinical Research Site

About the role

The Counselor will provide counselling to participants attending the Emavundleni Research Site, supporting informed consent, HIV testing, questionnaire administration and general research activities.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct HIV counselling and testing, including pre‑ and post‑test counselling.
• Provide lifestyle, risk‑reduction and health education to participants and their families.
• Administer study questionnaires and collect data (e.g., CASI) according to protocol.
• Assist with translation, participant locator updates, and retention activities such as reminder calls and home visits.
• Maintain accurate study records in real time, ensuring compliance with GCP and site SOPs.

Required profile

• Grade 12 Certificate with at least 2 years of experience in informed consent processes within a clinical research setting.
• HIV Counselling certificate and GCP certification.
• Fluency in English and isiXhosa, strong communication and confidentiality skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a mobile clinic team, including irregular hours.

• Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Computer literacy including email and electronic data entry.
