Costing Estimator / Designer - Roof Trusses

About the role

This role delivers precise structural calculations and accurate material pricing, creating compliant, safe and cost-effective designs with clear material estimates for clients, building contractors and developers. It works as a technical resource alongside builders and engineers on projects across several sites in the Western Cape, requiring travel between branches or project sites.

Key responsibilities

• Create safe, compliant and cost-effective roof truss designs from architectural plans and engineering briefs.
• Generate accurate quotes and material take-offs for clients, contractors and developers.
• Collaborate with builders, engineers and clients to give technical support and optimised structural solutions.
• Carry out site visits and support across locations to ensure precise measurements and project alignment.

Required profile

• Proven experience in roof truss design and cost estimation in the timber or building materials industry.
• Ability to interpret complex architectural drawings and structural engineering requirements accurately.
• Matric certificate and a valid South African driver's licence.
• Willingness to travel between sites or relocate within the Western Cape.
• Desirable: point of sale software experience and a relevant tertiary qualification with 3-5 years' experience.

Required skills

• Strong mathematics, attention to detail and spatial awareness.
• Excellent computer literacy, communication and customer service skills.
• Highly advantageous: advanced knowledge of roof truss design software such as MiTek and Pamir.
