Controller / Finance Operations Lead (Remote, Contractor)

About the role

We are looking for a commercially sharp, process‑driven Controller / Finance Operations Lead to professionalize and scale the financial infrastructure of a fast‑moving media and e‑commerce ecosystem. This remote, independent‑contractor position blends day‑to‑day bookkeeping with strategic forecasting in a high‑growth startup environment.

Key responsibilities

• Own end‑to‑end month‑end close and produce accurate financial reporting packages for leadership.
• Audit, improve, and scale internal financial systems, automation workflows, and SOPs.
• Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, and vendor pipelines while coordinating with external accountants.
• Maintain clean historical records to support investor due diligence and capital planning.
• Track unit economics, inventory cycles, COGS, landed costs and real‑time product margins.
• Conduct profitability analysis across e‑commerce merchandise, media assets, and brand sponsorships.
• Ensure seamless financial data integration across Shopify, payment gateways, and banking ledgers.
• Build, maintain, and stress‑test rolling cash‑flow forecasts.
• Partner with leadership to develop departmental budgets, monitor variance, and support long‑term growth planning.

Required profile

• 4+ years progressive experience in accounting, finance, or controller roles, preferably in a fast‑paced startup or agency.
• Strong understanding of U.S. accounting principles and corporate financial workflows.
• Experience with multi‑channel revenue models and e‑commerce finance.
