Control & Instrumentation Engineer – Industrial Automation

About the role

We are seeking a Control & Instrumentation Engineer with a strong passion for industrial automation and process control systems. The role involves working on complex engineering projects within the metals industry, delivering end‑to‑end solutions for control and instrumentation.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement control and instrumentation systems for large‑scale industrial projects.
• Perform planning, specification development, costing, procurement, and reporting.
• Provide construction support, commissioning, and handover of electrical and control system packages.
• Develop and maintain PLC programs and assist with control system integration.
• Prepare instrumentation and control system specifications aligned with project requirements.
• Support plant commissioning activities and optimise system performance.
• Offer technical leadership to multidisciplinary project teams.
• Manage suppliers and subcontractors to ensure successful project execution.
• Liaise with clients, contractors, and authorities throughout project lifecycles.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, quality, and industry standards.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a project engineering environment.
• At least 2 years of plant commissioning experience.
• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Electrical, Electronic, Mechatronic or related engineering discipline.
• Professional registration as Pr. Eng. or Pr. Tech.
• South African residency or a valid work permit.

Required skills

• PLC programming and fault diagnostics.
• Instrumentation calibration, specification and fault finding.
• Control system specification and implementation.
• Ability to read and interpret P&IDs and PFDs.
• Understanding of industrial networks and communication protocols.
• Project costing, budgeting and cost‑control principles.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving abilities.
• Project management and delivery within budget and schedule constraints.
