Contract Electrician – Supervisory Level (Food Manufacturing)

About the role

A well‑established food manufacturing company in Cape Town is seeking a Contract Electrician at supervisory level. The role involves ensuring reliable operation of high‑speed production and packaging equipment while leading a technical team.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate all electrical maintenance activities on automated production lines.
• Perform advanced mechatronic fault‑finding on PLC‑controlled systems, VSDs, sensors, motors and control panels.
• Carry out planned preventative and corrective maintenance to minimise downtime.
• Respond promptly to breakdowns, diagnose faults and implement corrective actions.
• Inspect electrical installations for legal and safety compliance, including food‑safety standards.
• Assist with machine upgrades, installations and commissioning.
• Allocate work, mentor junior artisans and maintain accurate job cards and technical reports.

Required profile

• Qualified and trade‑tested Electrician with a valid Wireman’s Licence.
• Minimum 5 years post‑trade experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Previous supervisory or team‑lead experience.
• Strong mechatronic and electrical fault‑finding abilities.
• Experience with automated production and packaging machinery, preferably in food manufacturing or FMCG.
• Willingness to work shifts, overtime and attend breakdowns as needed.
• Must reside in Cape Town.
