Consultant Pathologist – Histopathology (Aberdeen Royal Infirmary)

About the role

The position is for a Consultant Pathologist in Histopathology joining a team of 22 consultants at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, a university‑affiliated teaching hospital. The role offers a blend of clinical service, research, teaching and the possibility of private practice.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver diagnostic histopathology services, with a focus on dermatopathology and urology, while remaining open to other subspecialties.
• Manage workload in line with RCPath points guidance and support subspecialist teams.
• Contribute to research projects, teaching activities and mentorship of trainees.
• Participate in the integrated biorepository and molecular genetics laboratory activities.
• Maintain compliance with UKAS ISO 15189:2022 accreditation standards.

Required profile

• Full GMC registration with a licence to practise, in place before start.
• UK‑based higher specialist training leading to CCT or entry on the GMC Specialist Register within 6 months of interview.
• CESR/Portfolio Pathway candidates only after specialist registration is awarded.
• Internationally recognised specialist qualification approved by the GMC is acceptable with confirmed specialist register entry.
• Commitment to teamwork, training and departmental duties.
