Conservation Officer

About the role

A client of SHERQ is looking for an experienced Conservation Officer to work on a contract basis in Cape Town. The role supports environmental and restoration projects, including the rehabilitation and restoration of rivers, wetlands, vleis, biodiversity corridors and associated public open spaces. The Conservation Officer provides key support in the planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting of environmental projects and programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Support environmental rehabilitation and restoration
• Coordinate and oversee the river warden programme
• Carry out environmental monitoring and site inspections
• Monitor compliance and manage risks
• Engage stakeholders and liaise with communities
• Manage contracts and service providers
• Prepare project reports and manage data
• Contribute to biodiversity and natural resource management

Required profile

• A relevant qualification or degree in Environmental Management, Project Management or Nature Conservation
• 2 to 3 years of experience in environmental management, conservation, biodiversity management, ecological restoration, natural resource management or environmental project implementation
• Experience supervising field teams
• Knowledge of environmental legislation, policies and best practices relevant to conservation
