Compliance Specialist (Financial Services)

About the role

Mukuru, a leading African fintech operating across multiple jurisdictions, is looking for a Compliance Specialist (Financial Services). The role sits within the Compliance team and focuses on interpreting legislation and regulations and turning them into practical business solutions, while supporting financial services licensing and strengthening governance and controls.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with stakeholders to give practical compliance advice and interpret legislation, regulations, licence conditions, directives and regulatory guidance.
• Monitor emerging legislation and assess its impact on products, processes, systems and controls, keeping change registers and action plans.
• Support financial services licensing: maintain licences and registrations, coordinate submissions, renewals and reporting, and engage with regulators.
• Draft and review policies, frameworks, standards and procedures, conduct compliance monitoring and testing, track remediation and close control gaps.
• Deliver compliance training and awareness, and work with Legal, Risk, Product, Operations and Compliance teams.

Required profile

• 3-5 years' experience in financial services compliance, regulatory advisory, legal interpretation or a related field.
• Experience supporting regulated financial services businesses.
• Exposure to compliance monitoring, regulatory change, policy governance or assurance activities.
• Grade 12 or equivalent; a relevant qualification in Compliance, Law, Risk, Finance or a related field.
• FSCA Regulatory Examinations and compliance certifications are advantageous.

Required skills

• Strong understanding of FAIS/FSP requirements and financial services regulation.
• Ability to interpret legislation and regulatory guidance.
• Understanding of compliance monitoring, policy governance and regulatory reporting.
