Compliance Consultant – UK Education Recruitment

About the role

First Call Education, the UK education recruitment brand of First Call Employment Limited (part of the A24 Group), is looking for a Compliance Consultant based in Cape Town, working UK hours (GMT/BST) Monday to Friday. The role owns the candidate compliance pipeline from registration through to being fully cleared, ensuring every teacher and support worker meets UK safer-recruitment standards before joining a school. It is a target-driven position measured on how many candidates are cleared, how quickly and how accurately.

Key responsibilities

• Manage candidate compliance files end to end in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) and DfE guidance
• Process and track Enhanced DBS checks, including Children's Barred List and DBS Update Service status checks
• Verify right to work, identity documents and proof of address to UK Home Office standards
• Run QTS and prohibition checks through the Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA) portal and obtain overseas police certificates where needed
• Chase, collect and verify references covering at least two years of employment history
• Review CVs for employment gaps and ensure each is explained and recorded
• Prompt candidates to send documents quickly by phone, email and WhatsApp while keeping the relationship warm
• Keep candidate records accurate and audit-ready in the CRM, and flag risks, expired documents and renewals early

Required profile

• At least 1-2 years in recruitment compliance, vetting, onboarding or HR administration (UK experience strongly preferred)
• Working knowledge of KCSIE, DBS processes and UK right-to-work checks, or the ability to learn them quickly
• Attention to detail, confidence on the phone with UK candidates and strong written English
• Ability to handle a high volume of files and meet daily and weekly clearance targets
• Matric is essential; a tertiary qualification is advantageous
