College Mathematics Teacher

About the role

Reddam House Waterfall, a co-educational and non-denominational school in Johannesburg, is looking for a College Mathematics Teacher. The school serves over 1,000 students in its Preparatory and Secondary School, and the teacher is expected to teach IEB-aligned mathematics, support pastoral care and take part in the afternoon programme.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, prepare and deliver interesting, IEB-aligned mathematics lessons in a nurturing environment that promotes deep learning.
• Act as a tutor teacher, providing pastoral care for a group of students and responding to their needs.
• Set and mark assessments and write informative report comments.
• Teach extra lessons on two afternoons per week and take part in the afternoon programme for a minimum of two afternoons per week.
• Respond to e-mails and telephone messages within 24 hours and attend all occasions appropriate to the position.
• Contribute to a dynamic team, continuously evaluate and refine teaching practice, and take on other reasonable tasks decided by the School Head or Deputy Head of Academics.

Required profile

• Minimum of three years' experience teaching Mathematics at FET level (Grades 10-12).
• Previous experience with the IEB programme.
• University degree in an appropriate subject and SACE accreditation.
• Legal right to work in a South African school.
• Ability to engage and interest teenagers, excellent communication and organisational skills, and a positive attitude to change.

Required skills

• Confidence using ICT in teaching.
• Advantageous: experience coaching an afternoon activity.
