College Afrikaans Teacher

About the role

Reddam House Bedfordview, a premium co-educational private school run by Inspired Education, is looking for a College Afrikaans Teacher. The teacher adopts a holistic view of the students in their care, promotes their progress and well-being, and creates a positive, motivating learning environment.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, prepare and present interesting and engaging Afrikaans lessons.
• Establish a nurturing teaching environment that promotes engaged learning.
• Behave professionally regarding punctuality, behaviour, work standards and students' homework.
• Evaluate, reflect on and refine teaching practice, and take part in personal and school-wide professional development.
• Teach extra lessons, when required, on two afternoons per week.
• Produce high-standard resources for students.
• Respond to parent e-mails and telephone messages within 24 hours.
• Set and mark exams and other forms of student evaluation, write report comments, and attend special occasions at the discretion of the Head.
• Undertake other reasonable tasks assigned by the School Head or line manager.

Required profile

• A relevant degree and teaching qualification, registered with SACE.
• Proven excellence in teaching Afrikaans and a strong connection with teenagers.
• Experience of teaching the IEB curriculum preferred.
• Willingness to contribute to the afternoon (extra-mural) programme, organise or attend camps, and attend regional and national conferences or training as required.
• Willingness to join IEB marking and moderation panels.
