Collaboration Administrator – University IT Department

About the role

The University of Johannesburg seeks a Collaboration Administrator to manage and coordinate its Microsoft 365 and related collaboration environment. The role ensures a secure, reliable, and highly available platform that supports institutional communication, information sharing, and business continuity.

Key responsibilities

• Administer and maintain the university’s email and collaboration services (Microsoft 365, Mimecast) to guarantee availability and business continuity.
• Install, patch, and upgrade Windows Server operating systems and manage related infrastructure.
• Support collaboration tools, including Teams, SharePoint, and related technologies, enabling effective user communication and information sharing.
• Manage Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, and related messaging platforms, enforcing IT policies and standards.
• Coordinate with disaster recovery and infrastructure teams to ensure resilience of collaboration services.
• Oversee backup, recovery, and cybersecurity solutions (Veeam, Azure Cloud Data Protection Manager).
• Monitor system health, performance, and capacity using WSUS, ManageEngine, and SolarWinds.
• Troubleshoot complex incidents, provide technical guidance, and maintain accurate documentation.

Required profile

• Diploma or higher qualification in Information Systems or Technology (NQF 6 or above).
• Three to five years of experience in system administration, security, backup/recovery, and networking (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP).
• Relevant certifications such as Microsoft 365 Fundamentals, Microsoft InTune, Teams Administrator, Entra ID, and Microsoft Certified Hybrid Infrastructure (AZ‑800, AZ‑801).
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and stakeholder‑engagement abilities.
