COBOL & VB Developer – Legacy System Support

About the role

Recru-IT is seeking an experienced COBOL developer who also has Visual Basic (VB) programming skills to maintain and enhance its legacy applications. The role is full‑time and based onsite in Pretoria.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain legacy COBOL systems.
• Create, modify, and test code and scripts to keep applications functional.
• Monitor system performance, identify potential issues, and prevent downtime.
• Oversee periodic data backups, ensuring they are secure and reliable.
• Coordinate maintenance, support, and documentation for in‑house applications.
• Perform data analysis, cleansing, preparation, and migration as required.
• Implement approved changes following change‑control processes.
• Investigate and resolve complex system issues across applications.
• Participate in ad‑hoc projects and produce regular reporting.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a COBOL developer with VB programming capability.
• Strong understanding of legacy system support and maintenance.
• Ability to work independently and deliver documented solutions.
