Clinical Technologist - Renal

About the role

Mediclinic Heart Renal Services in Arcadia, Pretoria is recruiting one Clinical Technologist (Renal) for an on-site, permanent position. The role delivers safe, comprehensive and quality patient care for renal disease treatment and education, in line with the Scope of Practice and Renal Care policies and standard procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver quality patient care in collaboration with a multi-professional team.
• Identify, prevent and manage risks to ensure patient safety.
• Facilitate a positive patient experience by creating a conducive environment.
• Provide accurate and comprehensive records of all patient interventions.
• Create a learning environment that builds staff competence.
• Ensure that all used stock and equipment are accurately charged.

Required profile

• Degree or diploma in Clinical Technology (Nephrology).
• Clinical technologist (Nephrology) registered with the HPCSA with at least 2 years of dialysis experience.
• Desired: registration with the HPCSA; no other experience required.

Required skills

• Acute and chronic dialysis treatment.
• Basic Life Support; ACLS, ATLS and PALS training preferred for specialised wards.
• Billing procedures and clinical record keeping, procedures and protocols.
• MS Office and dialysis programme computer literacy.
• Development of patient-based care plans and dialysis prescriptions.
• Operation of dialysis machines and water purification systems.
• Infection prevention and control (IPC) protocols, nephrology and patient assessment.
• Knowledge of relevant nephrology patient care legislation and risk identification.
