Clinical Pharmacist

About the role

Mediclinic is recruiting a Clinical Pharmacist for its Wits Donald Gordon Med Centre in Parktown, Johannesburg. The role leads an expert, patient-oriented pharmaceutical care service that promotes the appropriate use of medicines in the hospital. It is a permanent, on-site position.

Key responsibilities

• Provide clinical pharmacy services to the hospital
• Initiate and implement the Antimicrobial Stewardship Programme and improve the appropriate use of antimicrobials
• Share information on pharmaceutical utilisation, trends, strategies and medications with the hospital
• Mitigate and support the management of pharmaceutical risks
• Ensure accurate dispensing where applicable

Required profile

• MPharm or a relevant postgraduate qualification in Clinical Pharmacy
• 2-3 years' experience as a Clinical or Ward Pharmacist
• Experience managing an Antimicrobial Stewardship Programme
• An Antimicrobial Stewardship course and/or a qualification in Infection Prevention and Control is highly advantageous

Required skills

• Antimicrobial stewardship processes and procedures
• Knowledge of pharmacy legislation (e.g. Pharmacy Act, Medicine Control Act 101 of 1965) and ethical pharmaceuticals
• Development of pharmaceutical guidelines and protocols
• Knowledge of quality improvement methodologies and surgical pharmaceuticals
• Experience with pharmacy systems such as UNISOLV and AS400
• Computer literacy (Microsoft Office)
