About the role

The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) in the Neonatal ICU at Waterfall City Hospital provides advanced, high‑quality nursing care to critically ill newborns. The CNS acts as a clinical resource, leader and educator, ensuring safe and competent care throughout each shift.

Key responsibilities

• Act as shift leader and coordinate competent nursing care for the neonatal ICU.
• Provide advanced clinical care to critically ill newborns, including assessment, treatment planning and intervention.
• Serve as a clinical resource and consultant for staff, offering expert advice on neonatal care.
• Supervise, precept and teach junior nurses, nursing assistants and learners.
• Lead and participate in research and quality‑improvement projects within the specialty.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and other hospital departments to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with a current South African nursing license.
• Specialist qualification or extensive experience in neonatal intensive care.
• Demonstrated leadership and mentorship abilities.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Commitment to evidence‑based practice and continuous learning.
