Clinical Assistant – Ophthalmology Practice

About the role

A busy ophthalmology practice in Pretoria East is looking for a warm, mature and dependable Clinical Assistant. The role suits someone who is organised and professional, enjoys working with people and can give extra reassurance and care to patients. It combines administrative tasks with patient-facing duties, such as preparing reports and measuring patients' visual acuity before they see the doctor.

Key responsibilities

• Welcome patients and ensure a warm, professional and caring experience
• Answer incoming phone calls and assist with patient enquiries
• Manage appointments and general administrative duties
• Prepare, capture and organise reports and patient documentation
• Take accurate patient histories and update patient records
• Measure patients' visual acuity (VA) before they proceed to the ophthalmologist
• Keep patient files and medical records accurate and up to date
• Assist with the day-to-day running of the practice and support the ophthalmologist and team
• Maintain patient confidentiality and professional standards

Required profile

• Fluent in Afrikaans
• Good communication skills, calm and confident manner, and strong attention to detail
• Ability to work independently while remaining a supportive team member
• Caring attitude, reliability and professionalism; previous experience in an ophthalmology practice is an advantage

Working hours are Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 17:00. The position is permanent.
