Chief Technical Officer – Mining and Engineering

About the role

An executive leadership position reporting to the CEO, responsible for driving engineering, manufacturing, R&D and technology innovation in a capital‑intensive mining environment.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute an engineering and technology strategy aligned with commercial objectives.
• Oversee mechanical engineering, manufacturing operations, production performance, quality assurance and cost control.
• Lead R&D, product design, technology roadmaps and commercialisation of new products.
• Drive automation, mechanisation and digital transformation to improve productivity and competitiveness.
• Evaluate capital projects, manage budgets, capital expenditure and resource allocation.
• Ensure compliance with engineering standards, quality management systems, safety, environmental and regulatory requirements.
• Lead multidisciplinary teams, mentor senior professionals and manage succession planning.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (mandatory) and 12‑15 years of relevant experience.
• 5‑8 years in senior management or executive leadership with full P&L accountability.
• Extensive experience in engineering‑led, manufacturing and R&D‑driven organisations, preferably in mining or heavy equipment.
• Strong commercial acumen, strategic decision‑making and stakeholder management skills.
