Chief Operations Technology Officer (Fixed-Term)

About the role

The Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS) is responsible for safe and efficient air traffic services within South Africa's airspace and the surrounding oceanic areas, supporting nine statutory airports, 11 regional airports and St Helena Airport. It is seeking a Chief Operations Technology Officer to lead its Operations Technology Department, which covers systems that interact with aircraft operations, airport infrastructure, air traffic control and maintenance systems. The post reports to the Chief Executive Officer and is advertised as a five-year performance-based fixed-term contract.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement the Operations Technology strategy and roadmap, aligned with air navigation and safety goals, and define the engineering services model
• Influence the development of communication, navigation, surveillance and air traffic management (CNS/ATM) concepts and plans nationally and regionally over a 20-year horizon, engaging ICAO and other stakeholders
• Deploy, integrate and operate OT systems, and ensure their security, safety, governance and compliance
• Monitor and optimise OT performance by system availability, reliability, stability and service levels, and oversee maintenance and end-user support
• Lead high-value CAPEX and implementation plans, and manage contracts with suppliers and original equipment manufacturers
• Lead the development of technical standards and service-level agreements, and keep up with emerging maintenance trends
• Manage expenditure within approved financial parameters and develop CNS-related products and services
• Maintain governance, compliance and risk management, prepare strategic reports to EXCO and the Board, and manage stakeholder relations with regulators, airports and service providers
